What's in Coffee Blocks?

We use only real ingredients with names you can pronounce.

You won't find any sugar alcohols, like Sorbitol, in Coffee Blocks. We don't use Dextrin, Maltodextrin, Cyclic Dextrin or anything else to bind to fats. Why? Because we use REAL Organic Coconut Oil and REAL Grass Fed Butter.

High-quality ingredients are important to us. We've searched the world for the best ingredients to use in Coffee Blocks. We use ingredients from animals that are humanely raised and fed an organic or grass diet.  

We also care about the people who harvest our plant ingredients. These are amazing farmers. Their years of experience have taught them how to spot and pick the best coffee beans and coconuts. The ones we use in Coffee blocks. 

There are only 5 ingredients in Coffee Blocks. 

Clarified Grass Fed Butter

Over the past few decades, butter has gotten a bad rap. It's not bad for you. In fact, butter from grass fed cows is quite good for you.

Butter has been a staple of the human diet for more than 10,000 years. Ever since animals were first domesticated, humans have been churning their milk into butter. Interestingly, that's the same time humans discovered true happiness. 

Health authorities have made butter into a villain. They blame the cholesterol and saturated fat in butter for heart disease. But, the heart disease epidemic has ONLY been around for about 80 years. That's just a drop in the bucket when compared to butter's history.

Saturated fat and cholesterol are no longer the bad guys. First, eggs were let out of jail. Now butter has been pardoned.  A 2010 study of 350,000 people showed that there is "no significant evidence that saturated fat is associated with an increased risk in Coronary Heart Disease or Cardiovascular disease."

But, the quality of the butter you eat is important.

Not all butter is created equal. Butter from grass fed cows is way better than your average butter. Most butter comes from cows that live on feed lots. They usually eat soy, corn, or some other kind of grain that isn't a part of their natural diet. These cows make butter that's pale and white. It's lacking in when it comes to the essential fat, vitamins, and minerals.

The butter that comes from happy cows who graze and eat grass has a deep yellow color. Grass fed butter is full of heart-healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. You can literally see all the amazing nutrients in grass-fed butter.

CLA(Conjugated Linoleic Acid) - CLA has been shown to reduce body fat, lower the risk of heart attack, and kill breast cancer cells. Grass fed butter has 5x the CLA of regular butter. Boom!

Vitamin K2 - K2 plays a vital role in creating strong bones and healthy skin. It prevents and reduces arterial plaque, protecting against heart disease. It's calciums cleaner upper. It removes it from arteries and deposits it in bones and teeth. It helps prevent cancer, specifically prostate cancer. Only butter from grass fed cows contains significant amounts of K2. It can only be found in products from grass fed animals and fermented foods. 

Vitamin A - Is an easily absorbed vitamin that's essential for good eyesight. It keeps the immune and endocrine systems healthy, keeping you healthy. 

Omega 3 - You heard about the benefits of taking omega 3 or fish oil (basically, less dying). The main goal of supplementing with omega 3 is to balance it with the omega 6 in your body.  Grass fed butter has that perfect balance of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids. Non-grass fed butter has way more omega 6 than omega 3. 

We use clarified grass fed butter in Coffee Blocks. Clarified grass fed butter may be a mouthful. All it means is that the water and milk proteins have been removed. Normal butter on the shelf is about 20% water and milk proteins. Clarified butter and ghee have less than 1% water and milk proteins. 

Some people who have a dairy sensitivity are able to eat clarified butter and ghee. This is because the casein protein has been removed from the butter. The casein protein is often the cause of dairy sensitivity. That all being said, consult your doctor before testing. 

Our grass fed butter comes from the cows of New Zealand. We like to all them Kiwi Cows. New Zealand's dairy system is pretty amazing. It's a pasture-based system where the cows graze in pastures year around. 

New Zealand doesn't allow the use of rBST or rBGH in their cows. 

Organic Coconut Oil

Organic Coconut Oil is probably the most amazing "nut" on the planet. It's a super source of quick energy. It's a ninja that helps fight infections. It increases good cholesterol. It even leads to more efficient fat burning and potential weight loss. 

Many island cultures view coconuts as a superfood. To them, the coconut tree is "the tree of life." Some island cultures get up 50% of their daily calories from coconuts. The benefits of coconuts help keep these islanders in excellent health. 

Coconut oil is a perfect mixture of healthy fatty acids. Most of the coconut oil is made up of Medium Chain Triglycerides, MCTs for short. MCTs are a magical fuel source. MCTs go straight to your liver from your digestive tract. They're converted into ketone bodies. These ketones are a quick source of energy, especially for your brain.  This means coconut oil is the perfect brain booster.

Coconut oil has another powerful property. It helps protect your body from yeast, bacteria, viruses, & fungi (like candida). It can kill these guys dead! This is why we use full coconut oil. If we used refined MCT oil, you'd be missing out on the microorganism fighting part of coconut oil.

Coconut oil can help you lose weight. The MCTs in coconut oil increase your total daily energy expenditure. This causes you to burn more fat calories. On top of that, coconut oil will help you feel satiated. You'll feel "full", won't eat as much, and still, be burning more fat calories for energy.

We only use the highest quality organic virgin coconut oil in Coffee Blocks. The coconuts in our oil are grown on certified organic coconut plantations in the Philippines. The coconuts are selected by expert farmers. They're backed by years of experience in recognizing perfectly ripe fruits.

Mycotoxin Free Coffee

We tried so many roasts from a ton of different places to find the perfect coffee for Coffee Blocks.

There were a few "must haves" in our search for the coffee we used. It had to be ethically harvested. No pesticides could be used in the growing of the coffee. The coffee had to be mycotoxin free. And it had to taste great as a butter coffee. 

The coffee we ended up using comes from Veracruz & Chiapas, Mexico. It met all of our criteria. No mycotoxins. No pesticides. The farmers are well treated and paid fairly. Plus, coffee from Mexico is our local coffee. There is no coffee grown closer to the continental USA. 

Our coffee travels the shortest distance possible. The further coffee travels, the more fuel is used to get it there. That means our coffee puts less earth-harming carbon into the atmosphere and has a smaller impact on the environment. 

Initially, we thought we HAD to have Certified Fair Trade and Certified Organic coffee. As we learned more about high-quality coffee, we found that many small farms couldn't afford those certifications. Many of these farms don't do anything different than the certified farms. They don't use pesticides. They don't use GMO crops. It's just that they can't justify the cost and time commitment it takes to get certified. 

Getting an organic certification is a 3-year process... minimum. And the cost of these certifications is often more that these small farms make in a year. 

We invented Coffee Blocks so we could make butter coffee anywhere, anytime, in an instant. To make that happen we had to fit all of the ingredients into a packet. That means using instant coffee for the coffee. 

Going into this, we had a poor opinion of instant coffee. We'd heard that it didn't taste good. That it was made with poor quality beans. That it was laced with chemicals. But, it turns out, that's not true. 

This isn't your grandma's Instant Coffee. The coffee we use is made with high-quality beans, harvested by experts. Our instant coffee is minimally processed. The coffee beans are grown, picked and roasted. They're then ground and brewed like normal coffee. The brewed coffee is sprayed into a hot oven where the water evaporates. What's left is waterless coffee. To make it drinkable again, just add water.

When instant coffee is made with high quality, perfectly roasted beans, it tastes amazing. That is the coffee we use in Coffee Blocks. 

The coffee in Coffee Blocks has the same caffeine as brewed coffee. Each packet has 117 mg of caffeine. That's equal to an 8 oz cup of coffee.

Organic Egg Yolks

If there's one ingredient that tells the Coffee Blocks story, it's egg yolks. 

If you've ever made butter coffee without a blender, you know that the butter separates from the coffee. It's nature. Butter and coconut oil are fats. Coffee is basically water. Fats and water just don't mix. Unless to add something else.

A lot of companies add things like Soy Lecithin or Carrageenan to their recipes to keep fats and water blended. But, we believe in using real, natural ingredients. Ingredients that you know and pronounce. 

Egg yolk has the same magical property as those other ingredients. It allows the grass fed butter, coconut oil, and coffee to mix and stay blended. It's what makes Coffee Blocks frothy like a latte. 

Organic egg yolks give Coffee Blocks an amazing texture. But, they do more than that. They give Coffee Blocks another boost of nutrients. Egg yolks are the life source for growing chicks, after all.

Organic egg yolks are loaded with folate and B12. They're a rich source of vitamins A, D, E, & K. Egg yolks help build cell walls. They also support the communication between the different cells in your body. 

You might think that egg yolks in a product with a 9-month shelf life would be a bad combo. But we found that by removing the water from the egg yolks, they can be stored at room temperature for 2 years. 

Our organic egg yolks come from American chickens. USA! USA! USA!

Organic Vanilla

When we do tastings, people often tell us that Coffee Blocks "...almost taste sweet." I think this is because of the organic vanilla.

We added it to enhance the natural flavors of our ingredients. It brings out the creaminess of the grass fed butter and organic egg yolk. It makes the coconut flavor a more subtle. And it makes the coffee taste a bit like a vanilla latte. 

Our organic vanilla comes from Madagascar.
